Description

If you love thermal features, amazing landscapes, and photogenic waterfalls, then our Fairy Falls Day Hike is for you. We begin with a short climb up to an incredible viewpoint overlooking the Grand Prismatic Spring, one of the most iconic thermal features in Yellowstone. This rainbow starburst of a hot spring is the third largest in the world at over 200 feet in diameter. We then continue with a serene trek through lodgepole pine forests to Fairy Falls – a 200-foot waterfall plunging off a pine-studded cliff. We will enjoy a delicious picnic lunch, take photos, and enjoy this gorgeous feature. For those wanting to see it all, we will continue further into the backcountry to Imperial Geyser. At this point, we can either head back the way we came to complete our day at 5.5 miles or move onward for an 8-mile loop. After soaking the up the magic of this lesser known gem, we will continue our hike back through the forests and meadows to the trailhead. We will keep our eyes peeled for wildlife and continue learning about the fascinating science and history of America’s first national park.

Please note: this hike is operated by Wildland Llamas, a separate company from Wildland Trekking, but with shared management and guide teams. Wildland Llamas is a licensed stock outfitter and guide company in Yellowstone National Park.

I'm glad we did it

We enjoyed our time with Jared. Hes a really nice guy and we felt comfortable and safe with him. This was the first time we ever did a guided hike. Im not sure we would do it again only because it is very expensive to have someone lead us around to the sights most of which we could have seen on our own. The Grand Prismatic spring for example we could have driven to. What we would not do on our own is go into any back country areas which is why we did the guided hike in the 1st place and also because all the signs about wildlife say you should hike in packs of 3 or more. However the back country areas we went to were not that spectacular including the fairy falls. We ended up seeing more beautiful water falls and amazing sights on our own such as in the grand canyon of yellowstone. So overall I was a little disappointed with the sights we saw compared to all we saw on our own. That being said Im glad we did it because we would not have hiked 8 miles on our own so in that way it was good albeit expensive.

Fantastic

Paulina was a fantastic guide. She led our group at a comfortable pace for everyone. We also spent time on the trail learning about all the native flora and fauna. Paulina was very knowledgeable and really enjoyed the fairy falls hike she planned for us. The best part was the wonderful picnic lunch she made for us at the Imperial geyser. Paulina was a terrific guide and made the trip lots of fun!! Thank you!!!
